8 Days 7 Nights Wildlife Trail of Borneo
Itinerary:
Day 1 Arrival
Arrival in Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah on the Island of Borneo. One night in Grandis Hotel (N)
Day 2 Kota Kinabalu / Kinabalu Park
Traverse the mighty Crocker Range towards Kinabalu National Park to see the rich flora and fauna including a number of endemics. 2 night at Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa or similar (B/L/D)
Day 3 Poring Hot Springs
Trek into the lowland dipterocarp forest to the Canopy Walkway for a bird's eye view of the tropical rainforest. The Canopy Walkway is suspended between trees at the height of 40 meters and offers good opportunity to observe wildlife in the canopy. (B/L/D)
Day 4 Sandakan/ Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre
Morning transfer to Sandakan. Visit the famous Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre and watch the feeding of the once captive orang utans. Get the chance to photograph them at close range. 1 night stay at Four Points by Sheraton (B/L).
Day 5 Selingan Turtle Island
Boat to Selingan Turtle Island, a important turtle conservation site. Chance to watch Green turtles or Hawksbill turtles lumber ashore to lay eggs on the beach, the transfer of the eggs to the hatchery and the release of hatchlings to the sea. 1 night stay at Selingan Island Chalet (B/L/D).
Day 6 Sandakan / Abai/Kinabatangan River Cruise/ Night walk
Boat transfer to Abai. Afternoon River cruise for chances to spot wildlife such as the bizarre proboscis monkey, wild orang utans, macaques, red and silver leaf monkeys, crocodiles and birdlife. 2 nights stay at Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort (B/L/D).
Day 7 Abai / River people village / Oxbow lake/ Kinabatangan River cruises
Morning boat trip to Oxbow lake in search of more wildlife. Birds abound in all shapes and forms. The lakes are the abode of freshwater fish, otters and sometimes - wild elephants may be sighted. Visit the River People’s village for insight into their daily life. Afternoon and night river cruise. (B/L/D).
Day 8 Abai / Departure
Boat to Sandakan. Transfer to Sandakan airport for departure flight (B).
